One would argue that the title says it all; you’re In Good Company – you’re now in the presence of three professional, diligent and talented Melbourne rappers.
Three individuals that have combined forces to release a powerful self titled debut album under the moniker of the collaborative group name In Good Company.
Available 7 October 2011 through Myspherical/Obese Distribution, the In Good Company LP sets the benchmark for wide reaching collaboration projects for the next generation of budding young musicians, and pays homage to the adage that good things come in threes.
And so welcome Whisper, who alongside Obese Records poet laureate Mantra, once left a definitive mark on the Melbourne underground scene with the group Equills; Whisper is an artist just as comfortable singing and producing his own music as he is writing lyrics that weigh heftily beside Australia’s most well known figures.
You’re also in the company of Breach, a dynamic and powerful rapper that reeks sublimely of those characteristics that endear us to our favourite artists; assuredness, cockiness, cadence, and the overt overtones of experience.
Lastly welcome Syntax, the Gold Coast native whose debut Soulmate Records (360, Pez) release The Musical, was credited with a swag of 4 and 5 star album reviews, and earned the rapper a fierce reputation as one of the country’s best live performers.
Together the three musicians have created a bond that is reminiscent of some of the most note worthy groups in hip hop history, and with a debut album that features the production talents of Aria award winner M-Phazes (Good Gracious), J-Squared (Illy) & the uncharacteristic vocals of Mantra, Eloquor, Boltz, and Brooklyn crooner Skyzoo, In Good Company will go beyond wetting the whistles of a stock standard rap audience; it will forge itself as a standard for collaborative efforts for years to come.
The album itself is modern in its approach; it is a synthesis of bold neo-production (as witnessed on the track One Day), and a definitive throw back sound that has come to be the signature swag
The first single The Road is an electronic bounce filled anthem that pays homage to the trials and ills of manoeuvring though a sea of love and self doubt – all set to rhythmic slaps of heavy drums, and the counter acting sonics and sweet harmonies from Melbourne singer Ginger Van Es.
